On the first of August 2018 I will switch from being Director of the University of Bristol Cabot Institute for the Environment to Head of UoB Earth Sciences. Looking forward to sharing lessons learned from both of those roles, from working in a thriving interdisciplinary context and lessons learned from colleagues across the University to engaging with city, national and international leaders on climate change, sustainability, resilience and social justice.
And maybe some more personal reflections arising from growing up on a farm in Ohio.
Check out Bristol Blogs for reflections from colleagues across the University and of course the Cabot Institute blog.

Rich grew up on a small farm in Ohio and studied Geology at Case Western Reserve University and Penn State University, where he developed tools based on organic compounds to reconstruct past climate. He worked at the Netherlands Institute of Sea Research and joined the University of Bristol Organic Geochemistry Unit in 2000. He helped found the interdisciplinary Cabot Institute and became its Director in 2013, stepping down in 2018 to become Head of the School of Earth Sciences. With Ujima Radio and BGCP, he co-created the Black and Green Ambassadors. Throughout it all, he has most enjoyed bringing brilliant, diverse people together to stimulate the creation of new ideas.
